That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
                                                                            Ephesians 3:17-19
How can one give of something they don't possess themselves? How can one give the gift of love if he/she doesn't love themselves? It can't be done. Not efficiently of effectively.
There are so many people who don't love themselves for whatever reasons. And yet, these same people are trying to invest love in relationships only to fail at having a successful one. They are left with the scar of failed relationships one after another because they lack the desire to love themselves. They are actually trying to give away something they don't have (love for themselves) and have difficulty receiving (love from others). Inorder for us to to love others, we must first love ourselves (see John 15:12, Leviticus 19:18)
We must have the kind of love that says, "I can love what God can love. I don't love everything I do, but I accept myself, because God accepts me." We must develop the kind of mature love that says, "I know I need to change, and I want to change, In fact, I believe God is changing me daily, but in the meanwhile I will not reject what God accepts. I will accept myself as I am right now, knowing that I will not always remain this way." (Passage taken from How To Succeed At Being Yourself By: Joyce Meyer)
God's plan for us is that He wants us to receive His love, to love ourselves (within a godly/balanced way), return His love generously, and to finally love the people who are a part of our lives. We are to love ourselves and others the way God loves us-unconditionally.This will definitely require us to know how God loves by studying His Word. Remember: Asssociation brings about Assimilation!
Jesus is our perfect role model to assimilate. He leads by examples in all things. He teaches us that the impossible is made possible through Him. Never will there ever be or we will ever encounter a better role model than Him. I thank God for such a positive role model that can be look upon in all areas and be found successful. The hope that has been given to us by Him is so amazing that we will be completely crazy not to follow Him. Greater love hath no man than this,that a man lay down his life for his friends (see John 15:13).When we can embrace this kind of love, then can we begin to truly love ourselves and others accordingly.
 Rejecting ourselves does not change us, it just multiplies our problem. Acceptance causes us to face reality and then begin to deal with it. BE BLESSED!
