And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. Exodus 32:1
Question: What are you treating as a god while you are waiting on God to deliver you out or from a situation you are currently in? What has become your "sacred cow?" What is keeping you from waiting patiently on God?
In Exodus chapter 32, the Israelites become impatient in waiting on Moses to return from his fellowship with God up on the mount. Because of their impatience and lack of faith, they tell Aaron to build them gods, basically to take the place of Moses. And Aaron, being a people pleasers, did just that (read 32:2-6).
I have always found this story intersting because it is a reminder of how we behave today. God has perform miracle after miracle in our lives, poured out blessings beyond our imaginations, protected us, delivered us, etc. and yet as soon as the trial is over, we go back to our old ways; worshipping idols. Oh, I know you are probably saying, I don't worship idols, I haven't put anything before God. But are you responding in truth, or out of defense. What I mean is, have you really examine yourself to see what has taken top priority in you life, what you spend the majority of your time doing, and is it keeping you out of the will of God? We have to be very careful not to allow the demands of daily responsibilities to hinder us from our time with God. We need to always put God first. If that means you have to get up an hour or thirty minutes earlier each morning than usual inorder to spend time with God, I suggest you do so.
There is no way we can live in this world, without the leadership and guidance of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have to arm ourselves with the " WHOLE" armour of God if we are to be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
There is a reason that we are instucted throughout the Bible to seek God, to depend on God, to trust God, and to believe in Him. It is only through Him that we will have the life we are intended to have. It is only through Him that we can be the overcomers He says we can be. And it is only through the application of His Word that this will come to pass.
Don't underestimate the attack of the enemy. He will do whatever it takes to get you out of the will of God. That's his job. John 10:10 says, the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: so he is doing his job. But in the latter part of that scripture, Jesus goes on to tell us that, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Why do you think Jesus uses the word might? He uses it to let us know that abundant life has been made available to us; however it is a choice as to whether or not we possess it. It is through your obedience to the Word of God that you can receive this benefit. It is decided by you if this is what you want to have. You are given a choice. What you do with your right to choose, is up to you.
Liberty can be very scary, especially when one has been in bondage for a long time. You can bring that person out of the environment that has him/her bound, and yet spend years trying to get that environment out of them. It is always easier to change the environment than it is to get the environment out of a person, hence the Israelites; hence us. God could not allow them to enter into the promised land with their old way of thinking. They wouldn't have appreciated the blessing as well as understood it. They pretty much blocked their blessings. Sounds familiar.
Again, I ask you, "What is your sacred cow? What are you allowing to hold up your blessing? I say you because you are the one who is doing it. Just as the Israelites thought they were waiting on God, we think that also. In reality, God is waiting on us. He is waiting on us to get in alignment with His Word. He is waiting on us to trust Him to lead us and guide us inorder for us to be eligible for the promises and benefits that He has to offer us. But He can't give it to you if you are not prepared for it. So what are you waiting for? Prepare yourself to receive all that God has for you. You'll Be Glad You Did. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
REMEMBER: Whatever you yield your instruments to (money, time, body), that's worship.
