The Prophet And The Prostitute

...And the LORD said to Hosea, Go take unto thee a wife of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD. Hosea 1:2
If you haven't read the story of Hosea, I recommend that you do. It is a very interesting story. It's amazing how God references Hosea's marriage to Gomer to His relationship with Israel. Let me explain.
The Prophet Hosea represents God loving the people of Israel, while Gomer, the prostitute, represents Israel who have basically turned their backs on God by looking elsewhere for fulfillment that only God can give and worshipping other things besides Him. Note: God and Israel were unequally yoked).
God told Hosea to marry a prostitute to show Israel that what Gomer was doing to Hosea, is what they were doing to Him.
There is a powerful message in this story. God uses Hosea's situation, a personal situation, and makes it public. What do you do when love goes public? Love can be very embarassing when it is not reciprocated. There is no fun in being talked about, ridiculed, and made a fool of. It's one thing to feel that way in private; but to feel that way publicly, is humiliating.
Now take the way Israel has made God feel, and examine yourself. Are you grieving the Holy Spirit? Are the things you are doing breaking God's heart? Are you showing appreciation and gratitude to the Lord for what He has done for you and continues to do for you? Think about it.
We are each given an opportunity each day we are blessed to see, to live a Godly life. We are to represent God to the best of our ability, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. Everything we say and do should be in alignment with the Word of God. We should eagerly serve Him wholeheartedly. The way we serve God is through serving people. There are people all around us each day that stand in the need of help: whether it's an encouraging word, a smile, a hug, monetary, a good laugh, food, clothing, etc. There is always something to do and someone to help if you will open your heart to this concept.
Spend some time reading the book of Hosea and listen to what God is telling His people. Check yourself to see if whether or not you are breaking God's heart with your words and/or deeds. If so, ask God for forgiveness, repent, and begin this day forward living a life that brings joy to the heart of the Lord. IN JESUS' NAME, AMEN.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:17
