Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now I'm found;
Was blind, but now I see.
What a powerful yet familiar song! I remember singing this song as a little girl in the church I grew up in. Singing it as a little girl, I was just happy to know the words. But now that I am an adult, and have learn the true meaning of grace, its value, and total appreciation for it, the song has a totally different meaning.
Grace- the unmerited love and favor of God. Meaning, He gives it to us even though we don't deserve it. We can never earn it; He just gives it to us out of the love He has for us. WHAT AN AWESOME GOD!!
Ephesians 2:1-8 sums it up for us:
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
IN JESUS' NAME, AMEN.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my tears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
