Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32
Often times, when I hear this scripture, it's always verse 32. Rarely is verse 31 read before it. But when you read verse 31, then verse 32, it tends to take on a whole different meaning.
Growing up, people always said,"the truth shall set you free." Of course this was when they were trying to get you to be honest about a particular situation. But here, Jesus tells us that if we continue in His word, then we are indeed his disciples. And in being his disciples, we will know the truth and therefore we shall be free. Free from what? SIN!
To know Jesus is to know his purpose and then to trust Him to show you your purpose. It is to believe that He died for our sins so that we could be reconciled back to God. To know Him is to love Him. To know Him is to honor Him. To know Him is to respect Him. To know Him is to obey his Word.
Never will there ever be a man who will take such torture, humiliation, disrespect, horrific beating, etc. for us. I don't care how much a person tells you he or she loves you, it won't happen. Jesus took our punishment; a punishment that was rightfully ours. We were the ones who were disobedient. We were the ones who chose lifestyles that God didn't want us to have. BUT GOD! He loved us enough to give His only begotten Son, so that whoever should believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He loves us enough to give us another chance. What will you do with your chance? Will you continue to live your life as if it's your own? Or will you submit your life to Christ; allowing Him to be author and finisher of your story? It's not to late. Regardless of what you have done, or how bad you think it is, Jesus cares. Jesus restores. And most of all, Jesus forgives! All you have to do is ask Him.
He will teach you everything you need to know to live a righteous life. Just the way we were intended to live. Don't miss your chance to get it right. The only one who is holding you back, is you.WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
BEHOLD, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. Isaiah 59:1
