Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19
( "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." NIV)
Have you ever found yourself stuck in the past? Still focusing on how things use to be. Too caught up in past memories that you neglect your present blessings. Sounds familiar?
Often times, I find myself drifting back to how things use to be before this problem arised, or that situation occurred. Then I immediately bring my attention to how far my family and I have come. We have been though some very difficult times. But through them all, God delivered us, and made us better than before.
There's nothing wrong with reminiscencing. The problem comes when we get stuck in the past that it keeps us from moving forward. When we give our life to Christ, we become new creatures; old things are passed away; all things become new ( See 2Corinthians 5:17). Therefore, we don't have to allow our past to hinder us from living for God; doing the things He would have us to do.
From this day forward, let us keep our mind on the things of God, pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.( Philippians 3:14)
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
