His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matthew 25:21
When God blesses us with material things, those things are not given to us for us to hold on to them or to become hoarders. We are to be a blessing to others. I know you are probably saying, " I bless people everyday." I know we do things for our family and friends regularly. But what about that person you don't know? That person at the grocery store who doesn't have enough money to pay for their items? Or the homeless person going through the garbage can. Do you offer to buy him/her something to eat or give them money to buy something to eat? How generous are we to people we don't know? What do we do with what God has blessed us with?
As I sit here writing this, I just thought of a missed opportunity that I had to bless someone I didn't know. Though I'm always looking for ways to bless people, I too have missed an opportunity that presented itself to bless a homeless woman. This woman was outside of Hobby Lobby looking through the trash can for food. I was so engrossed with what I was there for, that even though I saw her, I didn't SEE HER. I commented to my husband that it was a sad situation, but I didn't do anything to help. Honestly, I don't have a reason why I didn't do anything to help. This wasn't the first time I saw her ( she's at Walmart all the time), but it was the first time I have seen her digging through the trash.
It bothers me that I missed an opportunity to help someone. That's not the person I am nor is it the person I want to be. From here on out, I will make a conscious decision to pay more attention to those in need and how I can be of service. How about you? Will you join me in allowing the Lord to teach us how to be faithful servants? Allowing Him to lead and guide us in the direction He intends for us to go.
I read this poem by Diana Kay Haerr called A Servants Prayer:
Give me a chance, oh Lord, I pray
To be used by You, somehow, today.
That in some manner I may find
A way to bless and enrich others' minds.
Guide my hands and my words
That they will do your will and work.
Let me give more of myself
That others can give of themselves.
Help us all, Lord, I pray
Through each new and dawning day.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
